Barbara is a two-time NDEr who has enjoyed a variety of life accomplishments. She was named an Unsung Heroine by the University of California, Santa Barbara for her volunteer work in the community. She previously held a SECRET clearance with the U.S. Dept of Defense and has recently been volunteering at the Santa Barbara, CA Police Department.
Her first NDE resulted from a childhood illness at 18 months of age when a high fever caused her to go into convulsions and to stop breathing. This resulted in cardiac arrest. She does not recall this incident, and her family did not disclose it to her until she was 55 years old. She recognizes that NDE aftereffects have greatly contributed to her life ever since her first NDE.
Barbara’s second NDE occurred when she was 31 years old due to human error during a pre-surgery medical procedure. After she had been in cardiac arrest for 10 minutes and experienced her NDE, she accurately recounted to the shocked hospital medical team what she had seen and heard from her ceiling vantage point. She very clearly remembers this experience and later discussed and validated it with the doctor who restarted her heart. She has been featured on the NBC Today Show, as well as many radio shows, podcasts, print articles, and live events.

Barbara founded IANDS Santa Barbara in August 2011, after attending an IANDS Conference, which helped her to open up about her NDE, assimilate it into her life, and begin to talk openly about it. Her IANDS Santa Barbara group is the largest IANDS group on the West Coast and she is happy to help support local NDErs and educate her So Cal Central Coast area about NDEs.
